Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Simple, yet important words. What do they mean? Why do they matter?
Join us as we explore the answers to these questions, and discuss simple steps that can support the journey toward a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace. We will provide an overview of the work already taking place at Caltech, highlight resources available, and take a minute (or a bit more) to acknowledge the data limitations we currently face. Learn about best practices, share what you are doing with others, and brainstorm the possibilities.
Presented by:
- Jessica Almeida, Manager, employee and organizational development consultant
- Esther Attebery, employee and organizational development specialist
- Carolann Icasiano, HR systems & data analyst
- Ofelia Velazquez-Pérez, director, employee and organizational development

In our management playlist, some of our greatest hits include moments when we make key decisions for ourselves, our people and our institution. But why, so often, do we struggle to make a decision at all? Why is it so hard for groups to make a decision in a team meeting? In this session, Melissa Parnell of Ensight Partners will be playing a mixtape of the paradoxical and illuminating tunes of our ability, as well as our inability, to make good decisions as a manager and leader.
Learning Outcomes:
- Why deciding can be psychologically distressing.
- How to improve decision-making for yourself and your team.
- What happens after the outcome of a decision goes poorly.
- How to think through decisions more effectively.

- Melissa Parnell, M.A., Executive Coach, Leadership Consultant | Ensight Partners
